Easter 2009 Friday, March 27: Chrism Mass at the Cathedral
This year, the Chrism Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 27, 2009 at 18h at the cathedral.
During this Mass, the Holy Chrism is consecrated. It will serve as the Easter and baptisms throughout the year for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and order.
Then there will be blessing the Oil of catechumens used in the preparation for baptism celebrations especially for adults or children already grown and Oil of the Sick is used in the celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick.
priests, deacons and faithful are invited to this celebration which largely manifests the unity of the entire diocesan community around its bishop.
The Chrism Mass is usually celebrated on Holy Thursday morning, although it can be anticipated, as here in New Caledonia, given the obligations of the various parish priests and deacons and for Holy Week celebrations Easter.
